Intermediate Density Lipoproteins (IDL) Levels

IDL or Intermediate Density Lipoproteins may affect your health in the same way that very low density lipoproteins do. If you have heart disease that runs in your family then you may suffer from cardiovascular problems and you may have to take an early precaution when it comes to cholesterol testing and lipoprotein treatments.

There is an advanced lipid test that will help you to calculate the amount of low density and intermediate lipoproteins that can worsen within your blood. VLDL and IDL lipoproteins affect your cardiovascular health immensely because if your arteries are not carrying enough blood that is rich in oxygen then your heart is not delivering enough blood to your body. IDL will increase your risk of atherosclerosis which will actually narrow your arteries and clog them with a type of plaque. Many people may not experience any sort of symptom if their blood flow is narrowing until their heart is completely blocked.

IDL or intermediate density levels will affect your metabolism significantly. Lipids are a type of fat that are absorbed by your body from the food that you consume or by your liver. Your cholesterol is made up of cell membranes, acids and molecules that have to be transported by lipoproteins that contain proteins for your body. Very low density lipoproteins transport cholesterol to your peripheral tissues and are the means to your liver having access to the plasma remnants. These increase if your diet is too high in fat and if the tissue within your body is releasing those fats into your blood circulation.

Intermediate density lipoproteins are a result of the activity of those very low density lipoproteins and are very rich in cholesterol remnants. These are usually cleared by the liver or are metabolized, but if they are produced in excess then they can do the same damage to your body that a high number of low density lipoproteins can do. LDL interferes with the sensing system and the genes that are required to prevent infection. There are various drugs that will help to reduce IDL and LDL within your cholesterol; Ezetimibe and Niacin are popular medications that will help your body to reduce the absorption of cholesterol or will reduce the very low density lipoproteins within your body.

Cholesterol reacts with oxygen when it is taken in by the liver and the bile acids that are then reutilized from the intestines. When your body reutilizes the acids for circulation and digestion and does so with too much intermediate density lipoproteins then your body is not receiving the dietary nutrients and protein that it needs to feed itself correctly. Take extra precaution if you have taken a test and the doctor has diagnosed you with a great amount of IDL or very low density lipoproteins.

VLDL are very difficult to measure being that they are a percentage of the triglycerides in your body. As your triglycerides are decreasing your VLDL are as well, and you are in turn increasing the number of high density lipoproteins that your cholesterol is absorbing and re-using for a healthy digestion of protein. Fortunately, there are numerous ways that the individual can significantly decrease the bad cholesterol such as IDL, LDL and VLDL and increase the HDL in the body. Before using medication to increase the good cholesterol it would be best to try improving your diet and the amount of physical activity that you are getting with each day. If it is hereditary then you may have to result in medication. If cholesterol is low in HDL then you are at risk for a degree of health problems that may shorten your lifespan and the degree in which you function as you age.
